1. Representational |
- Maintaining constant contact and regular dialogue with Government is one of the most important functions of MTMA.
- Such communications are vital for MTMA to effectively represent and promote the interests and welfare of the textile and apparel industry.

2. Consultative |
- Another important aspect of MTMA's work is its consultative role vis-'a-vis the Government.
- There must be a partnership between the Government and Industry to sustain the success of industrialization, which largely depends on maintaining an attractive investment climate where the industry can operate freely and effectively.
- MTMA is represented in various bodies such as Industry Standard Committee (ISC) of the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM), the Department of Standard Management (DSM), The Human Resources Development Berhad (HRDB), the management commitee of the Industrial Technical Assistance Fund for Small and Medium Industry (ITAF).

3. Servicing |
- MTMA provided members with services related to trade opportunities and advice on matters concerning the latest developments on government policies, procedures and other relevant areas impacting the textile and apparel industry.

1. Conferences and Seminars |
- MTMA holds conferences and organizes seminars periodically to help members gain a clearer understanding of Government policies and procedures, thereby providing a much-needed forum for the exchange of ideas between the public and private sectors.

2. Trade Promotion |
- MTMA also organizes specific textile exhibitions overseas to promote the Malaysian Textile and Apparel Industry.

3. ASEAN Economic Cooperation |
- Recognizing the need for Malaysian manufacturers to respond to the Government's initiatives on ASEAN economic cooperation, MTMA has and will continue to play an effective role in fostering closer economic collaboration among the textile manufacturing sectors in the region through active participation in the ASEAN Federation of Textile Industries (AFTEX), a recognized ASEAN Regional Industry Association.

4. Training and Skills Development |
- MTMA works closely with the Malaysian Textile and Apparel Center (MATAC), a training center jointly established by MTMA and the Government through the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), to organize appropriate training programs that address the current and future needs of the textile and apparel industry.

5. Endorsement of Non Preferential of Certificate of Origin (NPCO) |
- MTMA has been appointed as the authorized body by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) to issue and endorse Non-Preferential Certificates of Origin for all textile-related products since 1990.
